Q: How long have you been playing?
A: [Jay Stilla] "I was 5 years of age when I first laid my hands on a KAWAI K8 Synthesizer Keyboard. My Father was the guitarist for 70's funk band General Kane and had a passion for music, he had a home studio set up in the living room of our home. When I was 5 I would sneak downstairs and play with his keyboard while he was gone. One day he came home and caught me playing with his studio equipment. Instead of getting upset he taught me how to operate it correctly and initially gave me my first basic keyboard lesson. As I continued to show a huge interest in music my father hired a piano teacher to classically train me. My piano skills flourished and at the age of 8 my father bought me my first producing software, which was a program called CakeWalk. With the keyboard plug in via midi cables i was introduce to an entirely new world of music. I began to use the program daily and within a matter of weeks started creating my own composition. My father also bought a DR rhythm & TR 909 drum machine, a TASCAM 4 Track Mixer, Nano Synth Sound Module and a shure dynamic microphone. Essentially introducing me to my first studio environment. I was able to create audio composition and add vocal recordings on top. My father would always show me new ways to make my music sound better and he would challenge me to work harder on perfecting my sound. As time went on analog recording became outdated and the digital platform became a must have. My father helped me upgrade to a faster computer and we purchased an Creative Audigy Z Sound Card with a built in Interface allowing me to plug the microphone and other instruments directly into the computer and convert the analog signal into digital data. With the new sound card I was introduce to better software like Sony acid cakewalk home studio, cubase, wavelab, and other audio programs. I created unbelievable amounts of music and took my audio quality to levels I have never been able to. Time continued to move on and I learned that technology would too. I outgrew my software and at the age of 15 my father took me to guitar center and purchased my first copy of PropellerHead Reason. When I took it home I was madly confused with the life like rack interface because I have never seen such technical modules. I persistently studied the help book and within two weeks had mastered toggling the racks and working the sequencer flawlessly. At 17 I began working with digi designs pro tools & maintain my love for reason due to the upgrade ability and sound refill packages. I was given a Mp7 Sampling Pad by my older brother and integrated that into my reservoir of audio equipment. I continued to progress sonically and build my ability in audio engineer and composing. At the age of 20 i was hired to work at a multimillion dollar studio as a audio engineer and this is we're i got my first artist development deal also. Today I am 27, my love for music has not changed and I continue to adapt and innovate at the highest levels of sonic quality in the field."

Q: Who was your biggest musical influence growing up?
A: [Jay Stilla] "At an Early age I would say my father because he is primarily the reason why I was exposed to music production. My Pops opened me up to a lot of oldies like Sly & the family stone, Blue Magic, Temptations, Delfonics, Earth Wind & Fire, Marvin Gaye, Al Green, & his entire era. I also listen to a lot of classical like Beethoven & Mozart, because my piano background i wanted to play just as good as the great lol. As I grew order and got into production I was influenced by Hip Hop Producers like Kanye West Because of the way he used samples. Before hearing his stuff I never sampled large portions of songs, but I experimented with it when that sound was emerging in a lot of tracks. I also liked guys like Tommy Coster and Scott Storch. A lot of people don't know that they did Most of the keys for Dr Dre's Tracks, Including songs for Eminem, 50 Cent and the list goes on. Those guys were big influences on me because I was a pianist/keyboard player at heart. As far as Lyrically I would say Wu-Tang Clan, Tupac, Nas, Big L, Canibus, DMX, Outkast,112, Jagged Edge, and I could probably go all day lol. I was introduced to a lot these artist thru my older brothers. being the youngest of 5 children opens you up to a lot faster because your sibling influence you and show you what they like and thats what happened with me. for the most part i would have one particular artist that influenced me the most because I'm such a fan of music I know I took a piece of knowledge from every artist with a voice that intrigued me. So I'm just a melting pot of oldies,classical, hip hop, R&B and various other artist/musicians."

Q: Are you in a band? Have you been in bands?
A: [Jay Stilla] "I am not in a Band, but being a Audio Engineer has allowed me assist in Recording some really great ones like: Day Zero, Assuming We Survive, Joey Chrisman, Unstable, The 747, Portrait of a killer, Scorch the Earth, 3rd Degree, IDASES, Manuc, and tons of other awesome musicians. You should check some these bands music out the level of talent will blow you away."

Q: If you could jam with anyone, who would it be?
A: [Jay Stilla] "Hands down it would be Jimi Hendrix. The reason I would choose Jimi is because his entire persona intrigued me, he was the coolest dude ever and a phenomenal musicians. He stood out in a era the wasn't quite prepared for the impact he would have on the music culture in such short period of time. Definitely gone way to early, but that would be an epic moment me behind the keyboard playing along with Jimi. Our even just recording him would be awesome, but most definitely I would have him play guitar on top of every beat, track, song, composition, compilation, album, and you get the idea."

Q: What's the biggest audience you ever performed to? What's the smallest?
A: [Jay Stilla] "The Biggest Audience Would be About Seven Thousand to Ten Thousand Awesome Fans at 420 Festival On April 22, 2008 [My Birthday]. But the Platform is a Massive EDM rave and I got to perform along side my close friend and one of the awesome a DJ's alive Mr. Paul Ali. That was a thrilling Experience that ill never forget. The smallest audience was about 10 people. Which were my roommates, close friends, and family. Before doing any type performance you gotta get that input from the ones closest to you, cause most of the time they're the only people that will tell if its awesome or if it sucks. Family member make brutality honest critics and if you can impress them then your ready to hit the stage and entertain countless strangers who may not be aware or have heard your music."

Q: You're stuck on a desert island and only get to bring one album with you. What do you pick?
A: [Jay Stilla] "The Very Best of Marvin Gaye, Because it reminds me of such an Epic year in my childhood. I first heard this album in 1994 when I was 8 years Of age. The reason I love this album is because sonically it's on another level. Marvin Gaye's band was excellent and his performance was always so heartfelt. His music gave me a good feeling And That's exactly what I would need if I was stranded. His music would be a vehicle for me to mentally and emotionally remove myself from the predicament I was enduring. Oh Yea! and one more thing, just for he record. lets hope that never happens to me in this lifetime, Unless Halle Berry's trapped on the island with me ."
